Together for a green future
At Sportzentrum Mitte, we are actively committed to a sustainable future. We recognize that, as a community facility, we have a responsibility to keep our ecological footprint as small as possible while inspiring others to act sustainably. Our goal is to make a positive contribution to environmental protection and integrate ecological, social, and economic responsibility into our daily operations.

Ecological sustainability
Measures such as the greening at the Sportzentrum Mitte site are intended to underscore our commitment to greater sustainability in sports. They not only promote biodiversity and improve the microclimate, but also reduce temperatures inside the building, provide shade in our open spaces, and offer effective graffiti protection.

Greening as graffiti protection
Our new facade greening not only enhances the aesthetics and protects the environment, but also provides effective graffiti protection. The dense planting of the facade makes it difficult to apply unwanted graffiti, thus providing long-term protection for the building's structure. At the same time, the greening contributes to improving the microclimate, acts as an insulator, and absorbs particulate matter. This creates a dual benefit: We maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the building and actively contribute to sustainability and air quality in our surroundings.
Additional trees provide shade
In cooperation with the city of Salzburg, Scots pines were planted in one of our outdoor areas.
The newly planted trees are an important step toward greater sustainability and environmental protection at the site. In addition to their ecological function—such as capturing CO₂ and promoting biodiversity—they also provide valuable shade for our athletes. Especially on sunny days, the trees ensure a more pleasant climate on the sports fields, thus contributing to the health and performance of our athletes. By planting these trees, we are creating a natural and long-term solution that will make the time spent at the sports center more pleasant and environmentally friendly for everyone.

At Sportzentrum Mitte, we are consistently committed to social sustainability because we believe that everyone has the right to sport – regardless of origin, age, or personal circumstances. Our entire facility is designed to be barrier-free so that people with physical and mental disabilities, as well as seniors, can participate without restrictions. In addition, together with our partners, we offer special programs for refugees to facilitate their integration and social interaction through sport. From sports programs for young children to sports for seniors, we promote the health and well-being of all age groups with a wide range of options. At Sportzentrum Mitte, we practice inclusion and social responsibility, creating a place of community where everyone is welcome.

Football training for refugees
Every week, SPORTUNION organizes a soccer training session specifically for refugees at the Sportzentrum Mitte (Central Sports Center). This program not only enables refugees to participate in sports but also promotes encounters and cultural exchange in an open and respectful atmosphere. The training offers participants a fixed point of contact where they can experience community and solidarity and make new social contacts. Through sport, language barriers can be overcome and self-confidence can be strengthened. With this weekly program, SPORTUNION creates a space where integration can be experienced through the joy of exercise and team spirit.
